From August 16 to 19, 14 young media professionals from 12 African countries visited Huayuan and Fenghuang counties of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture for exchanges and investigation.
Among them, there are local media workers including the former acting chief editor of “The Herald”, which is the largest newspaper in Zimbabwe, the editor in chief of “The Daily Times”, a well-known financial journalist of Congo, and well-known self-media bloggers.
They visited the Targeted Poverty Alleviation Exhibition Hall and Miao embroidery base in Shibadong Village, Wulong Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., Denong Livestock Group Co., Ltd., and the ecological fruit industry base and demonstration park in Changputang Village. They listened to the stories of poverty alleviation and learned about the experience and practices of creating agricultural brands, transforming technology achievements, establishing industrial chains, and operating e-commerce. They recorded what they saw with the cameras and communicated with relevant personnel.
“China’s economic development achievements are admirable. We need to bring back the valuable experience of targeted poverty alleviation and rural revitalization, and turn Africa’s abundant agricultural resources into a source of happiness for the people,” one of them said.
With the opening of the Xiangxi Biancheng Airport, Shibadong Village is increasing the communication with the outside world. In the first half of this year, Xiangxi Prefecture received 164,000 inbound tourists from nearly 20 countries and regions, 18 times that of last year.
This tour to China is one of the activities of the China-Africa Media Cooperation Forum, and related documentaries will be broadcast simultaneously in multiple African countries. The forum, founded in 2012, is an important institutional activity in the media field under the framework of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum. It has been successfully held for 5 sessions and has become an important platform for promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and Africa in media development, digital empowerment, audio-visual technology, and other fields.
